Pat Evans decides to run for County Executive.

Good for him, but I don't think he'll be any better than Carol Kelso. I'm still holding out for someone else...

Evans announced his candidacy in a press conference today at Titletown Brewing Co. He is the second executive candidate to declare officially for the 2007 election. The first was former Sheriff Tom Hinz.

The county executive is like a president or governor in Brown County government. The executive proposes a budget and has executive authority over administrative staff and line-item veto power over the County Board.

Evans, 37, of west Green Bay is chairman of the County Board’s high-profile Human Services Committee. He has been at the forefront of recent debates over the future of the county’s mental health center.

Evans has held various leadership positions with local banks He started a new job this week as president of St. Mary’s Hospital Credit Union.

Evans has been on the County Board since 2002. He was re-elected to the board twice. He also served on the board of directors at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College from 1998 to 2001. He has a master’s degree in organizational leadership
from Marian College.

County Executive Carol Kelso has yet to announce her intentions for the election. She said recently she would wait until after the 2007 budget process is finished. That process is scheduled to conclude Wednesday night after the board meets to consider overriding six vetoes issued Monday by Kelso.

A primary would be held in February if more than two candidates are seeking the office. The executive’s office is considered non-partisan, but Kelso, Hinz and Evans all identify themselves as Republicans.
