Separation of church from state continues down at UW-Madison

Looks like Catholics are going to get the boot down at Madison.

A Catholic group at UW-Madison claims school policies discriminate against religious groups who want to qualify for student fees. The U-W Roman Catholic Foundation filed suit today in federal court in Madison against members of the U-W System Board of Regents and four school officials.

The suit comes two months after U-W-Madison told the group it could no longer be recognized unless it made changes. As a result the group wouldn't receive student fees this year as it had in the past.

The lawsuit challenges a policy saying that student organizations must agree not to discriminate in their membership on the basis of religion. The group says the requirement discriminates against religious groups whose members share a similar faith and beliefs.

UW-Madison officials have defended their policies. They say they're meant to keep groups open to students ... controlled by students ... and in compliance with rules that don't allow public funds for worship purposes.

But of course, funding pagan groups at UW-Waukesha is A-OK.
